Health Fair 2006 - (March 18, 2006) The Bilingual Family Health Fair was held on Saturday, March 18 from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center, 1750 17th St. in Sarasota. Close to four hundred residents of all ages took advantage of free health screenings. These included blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, dental, memory (Alzheimer’s), and vision screenings. Free HIV and syphilis testing was available as well. Those who attended were able to connect with 30 local agencies providing health, educational, youth and social services information in both English and Spanish.
Holiday Latino Luncheon - (December 16, 2005) On Dec 16th, Hispanic/Latino Coalition members and friends got together at the "Latino Holiday Luncheon" to celebrate the Holiday Season and to help raise funds for the Coalition. We enjoyed latin food, live music and raffles. A special thank you to Dora Inés Cardona for her lovely voice and talent and to The Community Foundation of Sarasota County for their beautiful facility.
Bilingual Directory Celebration - (August 30, 2005) On August 30th, at a breakfast celebration at The Community Foundation of Sarasota County, we proudly presented the revised bilingual resource directory. This year’s pocket-size booklet is the result of collaborative efforts between our Resource Committee and close to 20 local organizations. Contact us and get your copy today!
Hurricane Training - (June 18-19, 2005) The Hispanic/Latino Coalition invited the University of Miami and the Hispanic Center for Disaster Preparedness to conduct a training called “PREPARING THE FAMILY FOR A DISASTER”. The main objective of this activity was to provide the people and their families with practical tools to cope with this hurricane season successfully. The training was offered in Spanish at no cost for participants on Saturday June 18th at Selby Library Auditorium and on Sunday June 19th at St. Martha’s Catholic Church.
Health Fair 2005 - (February 12, 2005) A free bilingual Family Health Fair was held on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center, 1750 17th St. in Sarasota. One hundred and thirty residents of all ages took advantage of free health screenings. These included blood sugar, blood pressure, feet, dental, bone density (osteoporosis), memory (Alzheimer’s), hearing, vision, and foot screenings. The Sarasota County Health Department provided free immunizations to pre-school and school age children. Free HIV and syphilis testing was available as well. Those who attended were able to connect with 38 local agencies providing health, educational, youth and social services information in both English and Spanish.
